Igusa (rush grass) is a plant indigenous to East Asia renowned as a material for Japanese tatami mats. This product is a baby nap mat made of Japanese igusa manufactured by Ikehiko, the long standing company producing interior products majorly tatami floors, carpets, rugs, and mats.
This mat provides your baby a comfortable and gentle napping experience with little pressure to baby’s delicate skin as it is entirely made of natural materials.
- Although vast majority of tatami products sold in Japan are made of Chinese rush grass to correspond with a mass production, this tatami mat uses 100% Japanese igusa. According to Ikehiko, the Japanese igusa is more durable and spongier because its fiber is denser than the Chinese counterpart.
- Unlike ordinary tatami mats, this product is moderately cushioned as it includes 15mm thick hard cotton filling. In addition, the tatami part has softer touch feeling due to a special weaving technique.
- No more heat rash for baby: the rush grass has 2.5 times more water-absorbing than a cotton, ensuring comfortable dryness.
- The deodorizing effect of rush grass prevents the mat from smelling bad even if the it absorbs considerable sweats.
- Featuring natural Aomori hiba (white cedar) oil coating: this originally developed natural tree essence provides powerful antibacterial and deodorant effects.
- Simple and non-gaudy design suitable to spread in the middle of the living room without disrupting the taste of interior decorations.
- Easily foldable that you can store this product in confined space and can carry around. You can even roll the mat.
There might be some surplus residues (soil, dye, and resin) on the surface because this product is made of natural materials. Although these substances are harmless, wipe this product 2~3 times with a dry cloth before use. Do not wipe with a wet cloth.
For daily maintenance, vacuum this product. In case if any liquid spills on the surface, wipe off immediately without rubbing strong.
To prevent the product from getting moldy, occasionally dry it outdoor in the shade. Air ventilation is also effective.
A part of igusa string may snap and generate a thorn on the surface. This spontaneously happens to any tatami mat regardless of number and intensity of frictions. To prevent injury, cut the thorn from its root with a scissors or nail clipper, and gently rub the cut part with your finger to smoothen the uneven surface.
