These lacquered chopsticks from Isuke are unique in many ways, and really stand out from the crowd. These aren't your typical chopsticks, and that makes them perfect to give as a gift.
The chopsticks are finished with the hon-ken dry lacquering technique. The hon-ken process involves sprinkling dry lacquer powder on the item, and then coating with layers of lacquer finish. This gives the finished product a slightly rough texture, very different from the typical smooth and shiny lacquerware we're used to. It's a great technique to use on chopsticks particularly, as the rough texture provides added grip, not only to your fingers on the chopsticks, but also to the chopsticks on whatever food you're picking up.
These chopsticks feature maki-e lacquer decoration on the handles of a rabbit looking toward the moon. Each chopstick has a different rabbit design, and the artist imagined them as a couple, making this pair of two sets of chopsticks a fantastic wedding or anniversary gift.
This pair of two sets of chopsticks comes beautifully presented in a paulownia wood box, making it a fantastic gift or display piece.
