This taiyaki maker made of Nambu cast iron (premium Japanese iron made in Iwate Prefecture) allows you to cook one of the most popular Japanese sweet street desserts at home. You can make up to four mini-sized taiyakis at once.
Taiyaki is a Japanese fish-shaped pancake with a filling of anko (sweet red bean taste). Literally translated as “baked sea bream”, each piece of taiyaki looks like a sea bream.
The end of the handle has a hook that prevents the plates from loosening when bonded together. The plates are detachable, so it is easy to wash them individually.
By sealing in cooked rice or toast, you can also make a rice ball or hot sandwich.
The cast-iron cookware requires a process called seasoning to avoid food sticking to it and rusting. It is said that proper and constant seasoning allows the product to last for decades.
After use, brush the cooking surface with a scrubbing brush or sponge and rinse impurities with warm water. You do not have to use detergent unless it is extremely dirty.
After cleansing, wipe off any moisture well, and heat the plates to remove humidity. To prevent rusting, dry them completely.
Cool the taiyaki maker for a while, add oil to the entire plate surface, and store it in a dry place. Wrap it with newspaper so that you can keep it hygienic and dry.
