Kuromitsu is a Japanese black honey similar to maple syrup that is often found in Japanese confectionary such as anmitsu, kuzumochi, and dango. It can also be used with other sweet dishes such as pancakes, fruit, and ice cream.
This sweet dark syrup is made from unrefined Okinawan black sugar (kurozato) and mellow honey. As well as being delicious in taste, it is rich in minerals and good bifidobacteria. Kurozato is unrefined black sugar that contains minerals like potassium and iron that are usually filtered out of white sugar. Bifidobacteria are a group of probiotics that normally live in your intestines and stomach, helping your body perform essential functions such as digestion and staving off harmful bacteria.
